Wembley Stadium History

Wembley Stadium first opened back in April 1923, initially holding a 127,000 capacity. The stadium's inaugural event was the 1923 FA Cup final, in which Bolton Wanderers faced West Ham United, with a reported 126,047 spectators in attendance.

Wembley was renovated in 1963, gaining new features such as an electric scoreboard and an all-encircling roof made from aluminium and translucent glass. The 2007 FA Cup final was one of the first events staged at Wembley following the reopening of the stadium. 89,826 people were in attendance as Chelsea narrowly defeated Manchester United, 1-0.
